Coffee Meets Bagel
One chilly fall morning in New York City, I matched with someone on Coffee Meets Bagel who had a bio that read, "Looks like a librarian, parties like a piñata." Intrigued and mildly concerned for their safety, I decided to meet them for coffee at a cozy café in the Village. As soon as we sat down, the barista accidentally spilled a mocha latte all over my date's plaid shirt. Instead of getting upset, they sprang up and declared, "Looks like I’m trying out a new trend: caffeinated fashion!" with a wink that nearly knocked the caffeine right out of me. The conversation flowed effortlessly, from our mutual love of dogs in Halloween costumes to debating whether pineapple on pizza was a culinary innovation or a sin against humanity. In the middle of discussing our favorite books, we were interrupted by a toddler who mistook my date for an actual piñata and began to enthusiastically whack them with a foam sword. My date pretended to be a piñata in distress, dramatically flailing about, and the kid's mom laughed so hard she nearly dropped her own latte. We both parted ways that day with numbers swapped, knowing we'd found someone who could roll with the punches—and foam swords—with charm and humor.
