So, there I was, swiping through Tinder, looking for love, or at least a free drink. I matched with a girl named Lisa, and from her profile, it was clear she loved adventure. “Let’s meet at that pop-up bar in Brooklyn,” she suggested. Seemed innocent enough. I arrived 15 minutes late because I got lost in the subway for what felt like a horror movie—complete with a rat-sized villain that ran right by my feet. But I finally made it, only to see Lisa sitting at the bar, already five gin and tonics in. Great start, right? After a couple of drinks, Lisa said she had “this amazing idea” for us. She wanted to visit an escape room. Now, I’ve always thought that many relationships could use a little escape, but this was literal and sounded like it could go south fast. In we went. The room was themed “The Haunted Library,” complete with cobwebs, flickering lights, and ominous shadows. As we began to unravel the puzzle, Lisa spotted a supposed ghost prop hanging from the ceiling. She squealed, “What if it’s real?!” At that moment, the room’s lights flickered more violently, as if someone were playing a game with us. Lisa jumped and accidentally elbowed me in the stomach. I doubled over, gasping for air like a poorly designed inflatable pool toy. “You’re supposed to be my hero!” she yelled
